The DanceCor Dance syllabus, taught at Southern Pointe School of Dance, is an excellent system for training the versatile dancer. Today, there are no longer companies that focus purely on classical or modern work. The dancer needs
to be able to adapt to various styles and forms of dance. Strong technique should form the solid foundation and being exposed to different styles builds versatility.
The DanceCor Beginners syllabus for pre-school children is a physical educational training program which includes important skills such as opposites, duplication, and listening. It develops musicality and the ability to move creatively through the exploration of the basic rhythms of music.
Through the lower grades, basic classical and modern dance techniques are systematically introduced with variation in style, while still giving the young learner a chance to express themselves individually.
The higher grades build on modern, classical, and contemporary techniques, body conditioning, music theory and styles such as jazz, African and release work are intoduced.
In the advanced grades, choreographic skills are encouraged, and performance ability is highly regarded. The work is both challenging and rewarding.
DanceCor offers opportunities for assessments, examination and medal tests. Workshops are presented at their anual Day of Dance which is always a blast. Indaba's help teachers to stay on track as the syllabus is contantly evolving and updated to stay relevant. There is flexible system in place for dancers wanting to train as teachers. In my opinion, DanceCor offers a wholistic approach to dance education.
